A Recipe for Video Ambrosia

Some of the best ads don’t cost a million dollars, half a million, or even one hundred thousand. Though sometimes they do.

The trick is staying nimble. We’ve shot on iPhones, improvised, and caught spontaneous moments of quality footage that no amount of pre-production could have planned for. Modern production companies need to be nimble, adept, and oh so creative.

A University of Florida project is a good example of what that actually looks like behind the scenes. Here’s the recipe:

The recipe

  • 2 days of shooting in studio and at UF
  • 2 large helpings of green and blue screens
  • 2 dashes of prop-master puppetry
  • 4 dashes of superior drone work
  • A sprinkle of VFX animation
  • ½ inch old-fashioned VHS player for added retro flavor
  • Served with a smattering of video pixie dust

That’s the job. Not a formula, a recipe you adjust on the day.
